Fisherrow Harbour Star Trails
I took my first Star Trails this evening, not too bad for my first attempt. There’s other photos of Fisherrow Harbour and Musselburgh at night in this set on Flickr.
DIY Camera customisation
In last weeks Amateur Photographer (14th March 2009) there was a article on DIY flash customisation. There was instructions on how to build a simple flash grid; however the really hard part was finding black straws. After a quick trip to Ikea, I had some straws which were only half black.
This is the test photo, there’s an version taken without the flash grid the jump.

Best Advice for starting with an dSLR
Almost 2 years ago when I got my dSLR, the best advice I was given by a some friends was to get a 50mm Prime lens. These are just great lens, they let you give your attention to the photo. By thinking about where you take a picture from instead of playing with the zoom ring.
This picture is from a walk last Xmas with the Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens, it’s just great lens opticily. Plus it currently costs less than £70.
A recounting of this advice comes care of the new Tack Sharp podcast and website.
